This beautiful rainbow selvage wool fabric is called "tradecloth"
because it was traded for by the Indians in exchange for their animal
skins. The style is typical of Northern or Souther Plains women from
the Canadian border through Texas and is seen at all the Pow-wows in
cool weather. The bodice is cotton lined for comfort and strength.
Often the bodice is decorated with shells or elk teeth. The dress is
usually worn with high boots and a decorative paddle set. It's a great dress
to show off your accessories.
Sizes 38-52 (bust) are $100. Larger sizes we can talk. Long wrap-around skirts are also very fashionable. Measure around hips and add 24" for the "wrap". Price is figured at $1.00 per inch. Rainbow selvage can be purchased in 7 colors: purple, blue, green, yellow, red or turquoise with three bands of contrasting stripes along the bottom edge. |
