Hide & Fur Bags

Deerhide bag with fringe Deerhide bag with fur

A leather or fur bag worn on a strap across the chest is both decorative and functional. Without pockets in their pants and dresses Indians were very fond of bags of all types to carry their stuff in and they still are. A plain leather bag of elk hide 8 inches high and 10 inches long with a nice front flap and a 60 inch strap is $50.00. Gold or creamy white.

This can be nicely decorated with rosettes or horsehair tassels bought separately.

Fur-on deer hide, as shown on the right, makes a nice front for a bag as do other animal skins. This bag, 8" x 10" by 3" deep, with a deer hide front is $75.00.

Badger Bag #1 Badger Bag #1

A whole skin bag like the Badger Bag shown with Eastern floral beadwork will cost between $300 and $400 depending on the type of animal and the amount of beadwork desired. The bag pictured is $400.00. If you supplied the hide the beadwork would run about $300.00.

Leather braid wraps with long fringe in white, golden tan or brown. They are priced by the inch at $1 per inch of length. All but three inches of the length is fringed. I can add jingle cones to the end of the fringe for 10 cents each.

Each braid wraps is secured with a matching leather thong.
