After ten years I finally got around to having the kitchen remodeled. In addition to gutting the kitchen I also decided to have the flooring on the entire first floor replaced with bamboo to unify the look. I felt it would make it less obvious that we "stole" space from the dining room area for the kitchen. It will also make it easier to have the really long table on Saturday nights when a dozen people converge for supper.
Below are some before, during and after shots of the remodel.
Further down are paint chips from the kitchen, dining and living rooms.
Day 0 - before the remodel begins. The space looks rather spacious without all the stuff that occupied it before my friends help empty it.
Day 1 - within 2 hours the old cabinets had been removed and they had begun work on rewiring. This shot is from the end of the day.
Day 2 - the electrical rough work is complete and new cabinets started coming in.
Day 3 - most of the new cabinets are in place.
Day 8ish - painting was completed by March 27th. Here is a shot of the kitchen. The electrical work is still rough.
Day 19 - Lighting in the kitchen is now complete, as are the outlets along the wall. In addition to the recessed and pendant lights we now have undercounter lighting. The space is at least twice as well lit was it previously was.

Here you can see the flooring, which is going throughout
the first floor, and the island config.

And here are couple of photos of the hardware I picked out. The finish is a distressed black. I think they called it oiled bronze.

Call it Day 29 - here's the almost finished results of the remodel. The main thing missing from this picture is a hanging backsplash behind the cooktop. We've already cooked the first batch of tater tots.

| This color is Grasslands. We used it in the kitchen. | This color is Semolina. It was used in both the dining room and the hall. | And here is Pumpkin Seeds. It covers the vast living room area, stopping at the loft railing. | ||

For flooring I chose a veritcal bamboo from Teragren. I liked the look of it in pictures I saw and also the idea that it was considered a green building material. The installers did a great job. I am very happy with the results.
